Faults

A fault is a structure found in the earth’s crust along which vertical movements are taking place.

Type of faults:

• Normal Fault: Rocks moving down
• Reverse Fault: Rocks moving up
• Tear Fault: a lateral movement

In Malta there are two fault systems:

• The Great Fault System
• The Maghlaq Fault System
